I reported back in September 2013 about HMRC’s plans to consider simplifying the collection of Class 2 National Insurance.

In Budget 2014, it has been announced that this is going to take place, with effect from April 2016.

At present, in addition to the Class 4 National Insurance that is collected with the tax liability, HMRC also collect Class 2 contributions separately – which are a fixed weekly amount that is collected directly during the year.

We will see further details of how this is to be introduced and operate going forwards over the coming months, and I’ll be reporting on these here.
