Many people are returning to work today, after the holiday break.

As it’s the first working day of the New Year, it is also when I contact all our clients and remind them of the upcoming tax payment deadline, on 31st January.

If you know anyone who has only recently submitted their tax return to HMRC, they may not be in time to receive a payment reminder direct from HMRC before the deadline.

It is important to make payment before the deadline though, even if no payslip is received – indeed I can produce payslips for our clients that they can use if this is the case.

As well as interest charges arising from 1st February on any tax outstanding, there is also a surcharge added at the end of February on any tax remaining outstanding – so it is important to make payment before the 31/1/13 deadline.
