Throughout the year, I have several clients contact me because they have received an email from HMRC – usually regarding a tax refund, and asking for details to make the repayment.

Indeed I have received several of these emails personally.

Unfortunately these are Phishing – an attempt to obtain your personal details by pretending to come from a trusted source, as HMRC never sends out emails regarding refunds or requesting personal/payment information.

As such any emails of this type that you receive can be ignored, or forwarded to HMRC at their reporting address:

phishing (at) hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
